
What is animal welfare and why does it matter?
Dogs are sentient beings, which mean that they are able to experience sensations and feelings. This gives them the ability to suffer and feel pain. Hence, it is our duty as dog owners to maintain a healthy welfare state for our dogs.
The 5 Domains of Animal Welfare
This course is structured based on the 5 Domains of Animal Welfare.
The 5 Domains of Animal Welfare is a tool which allows for the measurement and monitoring of an animal's welfare state over time.
The 5 Domains include: Nutrition, Environment, Health, Behavioural State and Mental State.

Nutrition
This course covers the nutritional requirements of dogs, as well as topics such as raw diets, grain-free diets, food allergies and toxic foods for dogs.

Environment
This course covers puppy socialisation as well as environmental allergies.

Health
This course covers the importance of health screenings, vaccinations and preventatives, as well as brachycephalic airway syndrome and medical emergencies.

Behavioural State
This course covers canine body language, canine aggression as well as the guilt myth and dominance myth.

Mental State
This course covers canine anxiety, as well as how the 4 functional domains influence the mental domain.

The Animal Welfare Station (TAWS) aims to empower animals by educating humans. Born out of a desire to make society a better place for animals, TAWS aims to centralise all things related to animal welfare to foster your understanding of animal welfare both in Singapore and the world at large.
